A place to practice together

Spirituality | Permaculture | Service

Our culture is “playful monastic.” We lean into a disciplined, minimalist, and contemplative lifestyle.

Will you join us? For a retreat? Or much longer?

We are actively looking for long-term roommates and collaborators !

Ideal candidates are:

  • Interested in sharing in our garden (both helping out and eating delicious food).

  • Interested in meditation, prayer, or contemplative practice.

  • Emotionally mature and capable of delivering and receiving challenging feedback.

  • Independent and happy spending time alone.

  • Able to contribute toward our monthly rent.

  • Competent and inspiring. We want to live with great people, and we’ll know it’s a great two-way fit after spending time with each other.

Why are we here?

  • We want physical surroundings and daily routines that support us.

  • We want to grow deeply into our own spiritual or religious practices within a multi-faith community.

  • We want to live in close harmony with nature.

What do we do?

  • We host 5-day silent retreats about 6 times a year that are open to anyone with an established meditation practice. We’ve also hosted yoga workshops, cacao ceremonies, devotional circles, and more.

  • We have 2 open-to-the-public meditation hours daily (6-7am and 7-8pm) where anyone can come and join.

  • We provide a space for up to 4 people to live with us short or long term who share our interests and values (read more about that on our FAQ page).

  • We rent our space to other teachers and facilitators to conduct their own retreats.

How you can join us:

If you want to take over our space to run your own retreat or collaborate with us to host an event message at rootsandwaterpr@gmail.com.

The Space.

We are situated at the foot of 50 acres of forest with 3 miles of walking trails. There is much wildlife including birds and reptiles, and wild food such as bananas, breadfruit, and mango. There is a small river that runs along one side of the land that has pockets deep enough to swim in. Our kitchen garden is about 1/2 acre, and we have many young fruit trees planted beyond that area.

Our house is simple with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a patio that we love to do yoga on and sleep on. Our meditation hall is our biggest joy, a simple wooden structure that faces the river equipped with meditation sitting cushions.

We are a 15 minute drive from downtown Mayaguez, but once you’re here, it truly feels like you’re out in the forest.
